Physical Sales Still Count

CDs, vinyl, and cassettes count one‑for‑one toward album units. Limited vinyl runs or tour sales can help push titles over the line.

FAQ

Do YouTube Shorts or TikTok views count toward RIAA?
No. Short-form video views don’t count; only on-demand audio/video streams from approved partners are eligible.

Do playlist adds or pre-saves count as streams?
No. They help visibility but are not streams.

Can international streams be used for RIAA?
No. RIAA credits U.S. activity only. Other countries have their own agencies and rules (BPI, ARIA, Music Canada, etc.).

Do physical sales still matter?
Yes — each physical album sale = 1 unit, same as a digital album purchase.

What about digital downloads?
Each permanent track download counts as 1 unit (singles) or contributes to TEA (10 track downloads = 1 album unit).
